 Was soll man dazu sagen? Egal ob die Story mit den Lost Tapes so stimmt oder vielleicht auch marketing-technisch etwas aufgehübscht wurde. Das Doppelalbum ist phänomenal! Klanglich für ein Livealbum hervorragend. Die Messengers in legendärer Besetzung mit Timmons, Shorter, Morgan, Merritt und Blakey scheinen in Höchstform und heizen den tokyoter Publikum so richtig ein. Man hat zudem das Gefühl, fast im gleichen Raum zu sitzen. Die 60 Jahre zwischen Aufnahme und dem Hörvergnügen heute, sind in keinem moment auszumachen. Selten so ein fantastisches Doppel-Livealbum gehört. Und musikalisch nahezu über jeden Zweifel erhaben. Blakey kommt mir in manchen Solo-Passagen von der Intensität her fast wie ein Rockdrummer vor. Hardbop vom Allerbesten. Eigentlich ein Pflichtkauf... 

What to say about it? It doesn't matter if the story with the lost tapes is true or if it was just a little bit improved for marketing reasons. The double album is phenomenal! Soundwise excellent for a live album. The Messengers in a legendary line-up with Timmons, Shorter, Morgan, Merritt and Blakey seem to be in top form and really heat up the Tokyo audience. You also have the feeling of sitting almost in the same room. The 60 years between the recording and the listening pleasure today are in no moment discernible. Rarely heard such a fantastic live album. And musically almost beyond any doubt. Blakey seems to me in some solo passages from the intensity almost like a rock drummer. Hardbop at its best. Actually a must have...
